A kid's holiday of a lifetime awaits at the Victoria Beachcomber

If you asked your children at the breakfast table one Saturday morning where your next family holiday should be, chances are pretty good they'd shout out in unison: "the Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa in Mauritius".

Ok . . . perhaps they wouldn't have been that specific in their reply.

But the findings of a survey released in the United States earlier this month suggest they'd definitely be thinking along the lines of an exciting island getaway where they can swim and spend time with their friends and family in spacious accommodation.

Some places on the planet are relatively small in size, yet exhibit hundreds of wonderful attractions for their visitors. Mauritius is one such place, offering a beautiful piece of heaven situated within a small but truly magical island in the Indian Ocean. For adventure seekers, leisure travellers, honeymooners, families and other visitors in search of outdoor activities, the island also boasts a massive variety of things to see and do.

Fantastic marine activities, fascinating mountainous landscapes, exhilarating valleys, lots of accessible waterfalls, and a stunning dormant volcano are only a few of the highlights it has to offer. For adventure lovers and travel bugs, Mauritius has a lot more than this in store! Whether it’s a family vacation, a romantic honeymoon, or much-needed break with friends and family; this heavenly island has everything special for each visitor. Although the scenic beauty steals the show at one glance, there are several other things to see and do besides sight-seeing, many of which should not be missed on your visit.

If you love heading out into the fresh air when you’re on holiday, here’s a complete list of exciting must-try outdoor activities to tick off the list during your stay in Mauritius.

  • Explore pristine sandy beaches

This country has some of the finest and most popular beaches in the world. Serene, gorgeous, and unbelievably pretty, beaches in Mauritius grab your eye from the very moment you visit them. The Belle Mare Beach is a favourite among tourists and locals alike. In the North, you can go to the hidden La Cuvetta Beach. If you want a more action than sun bathing and swimming, Le Morne offers fantastic kite-surfing opportunities.

  • Get adventurous with water sportsb2ap3_thumbnail_In-Search-of-the-Best-Outdoor-Activities-in-Mauritius.jpg

For those who crave adventure, no other destination offers better options than Mauritius. You can try a myriad of water sports and activities, including deep sea diving, deep sea fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and undersea walks. Explore the warm azure waters of the Indian Ocean while you indulge in water sports, and keep a look out for colourful marine life, coral reefs and other wonders.

  • Plan a peaceful walk in Pamplemousse Botanical Gardens

These gardens spread out over 62 acres and exhibit more than 500 plant species, including a number of native Mauritian plants. Boasting pleasant surroundings throughout the year, highlights of Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens include giant bamboo, unique-looking banyan trees, and the giant water lily pond.

  • Explore the Moka Mountains

To the South East of Port Louis, there’s a chain of sharp volcanic peaks - The Moka Mountains. If you’re fit enough and wish to climb-up the peaks, you can certainly try a few, such as Pieter Both and Le Pouce. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can take a trail along the lower parts of the mountains instead.

  • Visit tea plantations

As you walk along unending winding roads surrounded with lush tree plantations, you may notice that you are one of the only people in sight. This sense of remote beauty is coupled with the chance to visit working tea plantations to learn more about the production of this local specialty.

  • Rent a car and explore at your own pace

Nothing matches the thrill of a self-drive adventure in a beautiful destination. Hire a car and explore with your travel partner. Who knows… you may discover an amazing street restaurant or a pretty secret beach as you discover the sights along the way!

  • Try the delectable street food

Street food in Mauritius is among the best across the globe. Spices, flavours, colours, and tastes – the food has everything you love. With a unique blend of intricate Indian, African, Creole, and Chinese influences, hundreds of luscious cuisines are served to tourists. Many restaurants and vendors are situated in the open air, allowing you to grab a quick bite before heading off on your next outdoor adventure.

  • Shop the outdoor markets

The capital of Mauritius, Port Louis, is an ideal place to enjoy some outdoor shopping at a colourful, fascinating market. Here, you will be able to buy all sorts of items – food, curios, fabric, jewellery and many other products can be found at good prices.

As you start your new life together in wedded bliss, this exotic island getaway allows you to recharge and refresh in the warm blue waters of the Indian Ocean, watch amazing sunsets while sipping colourful cocktails, and pamper yourselves with soothing spa treatments.

Romance, privacy, adventure, food, shopping, nature and exquisite scuba diving… Mauritius has all this and more. Super fine powdery white sands and beautiful, unspoiled beaches first uncover the gorgeous side of Mauritius. However, the beauty of Mauritius is not just limited to beaches and tropical features. It also offers a wide range of modern restaurants, lively bars, trendy clubs, water sports, spas, hotels, resorts, and shopping spots.b2ap3_thumbnail_Mauritius--An-Ideal-Overseas-Option-for-Honeymooners_20160119-053056_1.jpg

Let’s have a quick look at the things you can see and do when in Mauritius.

Choose from the best hotel options

Mauritius has a great selection of hotels that can make your stay even more memorable. Pre-booking is always better when it comes to booking your stay.

Visit a fantastic resort and spa

Resorts in Mauritius are especially sought-after due to their locations, hospitality, and amenities. And as for spas, the very nature of this laid-back tropical island hints at the relaxation to be enjoyed. There are a number of spas throughout the island that give you all the pampering you could ever need.

Beaches and water sports/adventure

While taking advantage of the stunningly beautiful beaches of Mauritius, you can’t afford to miss out on swimming, snorkeling, parasailing, water skiing, sea kayaking, and scuba diving! A few of the finest beaches include Belle Mare, Grand Bay, Pereybere and Blue Bay.

Hire a car and travel at your own pace

Rent a car and take your spouse along winding motorways and coastal roads. Nothing matches the pleasure of exploring the island with just the two of you and the open road.

Indulge in fantastic foods

From street food delicacies to fine dining restaurants, Mauritius offers something special for every taste. While street foods impress you with Indian, African, Creole, and Chinese influences; a private romantic dinner date is sure to make you both feel fully pampered!

Go local with shopping

Mauritius is a shopping paradise. Look out for an amazing variety of products, bustling markets, high quality local curios and other items, and reasonable prices.

Visit Chamarel Village – the seven coloured land

It’s a little village on the map, but despites its small size, this village is one of the most popular tourist attractions across Mauritius. The land comprises seven different colors and the area is home to the highest waterfall in Mauritius.

Honeymoons are not to be forgotten, and when it comes to making yours a memorable one, what could be better than the ultimate island paradise getaway? If you’ve ever dreamed of unbelievably romantic moments with your partner as you explore crystal clear blue lagoons, clean serene beaches, and coral islets, this may just be the ideal choice for your first holiday as bride and groom. Spoil the love of your life with a stunning Mauritian surprise and start your new life together on a magical note!

Jeshika Ramsunder - Ladies Division Paradis Golf Winner

A client of BeachTravel won the ladies’ division Paradis Golf Challenge in 2015. Here Jeshika Ramsunder gives us a fabulous review of her visits to Paradis and the Golf Challenge. We congratulate her on her spectacular win and thank her for allowing us to use her photos. If you would like to join her in 2016, contact us to book your four-ball today, and get your accommodation free.

It was my second time visiting Mauritius in September 2015. It is definitely a destination I would want to visit every year. The contrast of colours, cultures and the different tastes is what makes one want to go back to the island.

b2ap3_thumbnail_8997e5437195196e2322edaae0f79205.jpg b2ap3_thumbnail_e4d2b600df2a365d69fe50123be8a184.jpg

I must add that I also enjoy the golf courses and that is my main reason for visiting. The beachcomber golf challenge held at Paradis Golf Course is my biggest excuse to get away! I had the pleasure of winning the ladies division this year and look forward to defending my title next year.

b2ap3_thumbnail_a2f34e25ae298d58abbd25403f7561b1.jpg b2ap3_thumbnail_db5448d658eb67ad460b1d278300e889.jpg b2ap3_thumbnail_2d3b639899d4e2ad027740e3c9517139_20151124-123331_1.jpg

The course is challenging with huge palm trees alongside each fairway. A round of golf here though is unforgettable - you forget about your competitors and the course becomes your only challenge. The back drop of the majestic mountains and the greens along the shoreline makes the experience mind blowing.

b2ap3_thumbnail_6914cc6144e50c67902cb4e2cd638032.jpg

The service at the club house is the best part before and after a round of golf. My golf bag is taken care of, my clubs cleaned and I don't have to do a thing until I tee off again. The staff are all friendly and always welcoming with a smile, and an ice cold refreshing drink.b2ap3_thumbnail_4f8948d080bada35a39974f7d5409bec.jpg

b2ap3_thumbnail_4d34c4f5e7c93fdfafe74170510e9ed6_20151124-123430_1.jpgMy favourite non golf activity has to be the water sport which is included in the package. The snorkelling is spectacular, but I always slow down my day by taking a paddle boat out along the colourful shores, with some good wine and company to enjoy the breath-taking sunsets. It cannot get any better than that!

Paradis Hotel & Golf Club is the ultimate luxury.  Staff are always so efficient, making sure that every detail is taken care off. Always pleasant, always greeting you with smile and very, very accommodating.

In my opinion you can’t find better fine dining anywhere. There is always something to suit every taste bud - the different themed buffets and styles of cuisine every day is very impressive...my favourite night is the gala dinner and prize giving. The spread is just crazy, although I am allergic to shellfish, I have never feel left out as there are so many different dishes to choose from - everyone feels at home.

I would say to all South Africans:

There is something different for everyone in Mauritius... and yet we all come back with one thing in common and that is a mind blowing experience!

b2ap3_thumbnail_62c9d9f66404ab603c440aeca7819fa0.jpgThe BeachTravel team is thrilled to let you know that Jeshika has been selected to represent South Africa in the 21st World Amateur Golfers Championship World Final in Turkey, which runs from 28 November to 5 December.

We wish Jeshika well and hope she has a spectacular trip and we look forward to hearing about her experience defending her title at Paradis in 2016.

Beachcomber Paradis Golf Challenge 2016

04 – 09 July and 29 Aug – 03 September 2016

The dates for 2016 Paradis Golf Challenge have been released and golfers, and their partners, should be very excited to plan their annual trip to play on this spectacular course. With prizes including flights, accommodation and more; this is a tournament not to be missed. Over 60% of the guests are repeat clients, so book early to avoid disappointment.

But why go all the way to Mauritius when we have golf courses a plenty in South Africa?

Situated in the warm azure water of the Indian Ocean, lies the beautiful tropical island of Mauritius. Mauritius is famous for its vast stretches of pristine white-sanded beaches, warm temperatures and pleasant weather all year round which provide excellent conditions for golf and for a great golf holiday.

Today golf has become one of the top sports in Mauritius and one of the main attractions for visitors to the island.  There is an astonishingly high number of golf courses dotted all over the island, ranging from basic 9 holes courses to world class championship golf courses with 18 holes deigned by the world leading golfers such as Ernie Els, Bernard Langer sprawls and David Leadbetter. b2ap3_thumbnail_MUPSLG2Dam08.jpg

In fact, Mauritius was the third country in the world where golf was played after the United Kingdom and India. Golf is practiced in Mauritius since 1902 when the first Golf club (The Gymkhana Golf Club) was open by the British Royal Navy members. The Mauritius Gymkhana Golf club is the oldest golf club in the Southern Hemisphere and the fourth oldest golf course in the world.

The golf courses in Mauritius are designed to test the efficiency and accuracy of golfers, from bushes to bunkers and from water hazards to nails concealed by verdure foliage, the golf courses in Mauritius offers exciting experience in beautiful natural settings. Many of these courses offer spectacular sea views and open coastal panoramas, and the Paradis course is truly awesome.

Paradis Golf Club’s Information:

Unforgettable is the only word to describe a round of golf on the course at Paradis Golf Club, as we can see from Jeshika’s post. Set against the backdrop of majestic mountains, the fairways and greens curl along the shoreline of a spectacular bay. The claim that this is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Mauritius is a valid one.

Built within the Beachcomber Paradis Hotel & Golf Club's grounds, the 18-hole Par 72 golf course stretches along 5,924 metres between the iconic Morne Mountain and the crystal-clear lagoon of the Morne peninsula. The smooth green fairways are dotted with a variety of brightly coloured flowers, while the royal palms, filao and coconut trees complete the picture of tropical island style golf experience.

The course was initially designed by David Dutton, but much of the creative design of the bunkers and fairways is attributable to international golf legend Tony Johnstone who has spent several years playing the course through its many evolutionary stages.

Guests tee off a mere 20 meters from the beach and reception area and play the fairways towards the mountain. The back nine holes are spread along the coastline where five water hazards offer a challenge to golfers both professional and amateur.

b2ap3_thumbnail_MUPSLG1Dad07.jpgThe course clubhouse has its own bar, where players can enjoy cool refreshments between rounds of golf. There is a full change room, with showers and lockers, at reception as well as a full bar with restrooms at hole No 10.

Paradis Golf Club has a golf academy, designed with the assistance of French Pro - Dominique Larretche. Private coaching by professionals assists beginners and seasoned golfers to improve their technique, building on their strengths and pinpointing their weaknesses. Group classes are also offered and are great fun for everyone. Bianca from our office took part in one on her trip in October, and had a very fun filled afternoon.

The Paradis Golf Course is accessible to all residents of the Paradis Hotel & Golf Club itself and the neighbouring Dinarobin Hotel. Minimal green fee of 18 Euro/person is applicable for guests of the Hotel.

So contact our BeachTravel team to book your four-ball today. Invite 3 full paying adults to join you for the challenge, and you get your accommodation for free. But book soon, as we would hate you to miss out on the most beautiful golf tournament!

When it comes to tropical bliss, few destinations can compete with Mauritius honeymoons. Few besides Seychelles honeymoons that is, which tie very closely in the tropical paradise stakes. Both of these exotic destinations have all of the ingredients necessary for pure indulgence, balmy weather, warm blue waters, white sands and a sense of escaping it all.

While both of these beautiful islands have plenty to offer honeymooners, there are a few differences that make each destination unique. Depending on your budget and specific requirements for your first romantic escape as a married couple, each will provide you with just the right setting for tropical bliss.

Keep reading to see what makes each of these destinations an idyllic choice for tropical honeymoons.

Why Consider Mauritius Honeymoons?

Mauritius honeymoons take you to the Indian Ocean, about 2000 kilometres off the African coast. A short direct flight from most cities in South Africa, this island nation includes smaller islands as well as the island of Mauritius. It is characterised by ancient, dormant volcanoes, mountains, nature reserves, lagoons, rich marine life and wildlife, historical attractions and a diverse culture rich in French, Indian, Asian and British influences.

The island is known for its wide range of activities, with a large number of resorts to be found that offer everything from water sports to 4x4 excursions, paragliding, scuba diving and kids’ activities. Most resorts are all-inclusive as well, with tennis courts, entertainment facilities and other facilities to enjoy. Key highlights to enjoy include the capital city of Port Louis, which has a vibrant nightlife and much to see and do for those wanting a night out; Blue Bay, an iconic beach location; Chamarel, a village with a nature reserve and lots of other sights to take in and Black River Gorges, an incredible nature reserve that offers adventure activities and plenty of things to see and do.

With the wide variety of resorts available in Mauritius, there is a resort to suit every person, every budget and every desire. Quiet resorts with beautiful beaches, luxurious spas and complete privacy. Fun, vibrant resorts that offer every water sport, land sport and organised group class your heart desires. Resorts that pride themselves on their spectacular choice of restaurants and varied food choices - some so famous that repeat clients insist on booking around the buffet schedule. Resorts that are close to the main towns, giving you the opportunity to explore the local entertainment and cuisine offerings. All-Inclusive resorts that offer you everything you need in the same place, without having to think about taking out your credit card.

b2ap3_thumbnail_mauritius-honeymoons.jpg

Why Consider Seychelles Honeymoons?

Seychelles honeymoons meanwhile are also enjoyed within the Indian Ocean, taking you to an archipelago of 115 islands off East Africa. This destination also has a rich history, with French and British rule influencing its diversity before gaining independence. As the Seychelles are spread out over a larger area, many parts are remote and quiet, making this an ideal choice for couples wanting to escape to their own oasis of paradise.

While activities tend to veer more towards quieter pursuits such as island exploring, boat cruises and scuba diving, there is still plenty to do here. But relaxation takes precedence. With many unspoiled beaches, tranquil bays, nature reserves, spas and natural hotspots to enjoy, honeymoons here are all about unwinding and getting away from it all; island style. Highlights include Curieuse, one of the only islands where Coco-der-mer grows naturally; Sainte Anne Marine National Park, an untouched, beautiful park and scuba diving spot where dolphins and turtles are found and Anse Major, a secluded beach accessible from Mahe by hike or boat.

b2ap3_thumbnail_honeymoon-on-seychelles.jpg

Ultimately, deciding on which destination is best for you comes down to your personal choice, budget and tastes. Chatting to a Travel Expert can also help narrow the options down, so contact us today. Both Mauritius honeymoons and Seychelles honeymoons provide a quintessential tropical romantic holiday that is sure to be treasured forever!

Mauritius Weather and when to travel
by Bianca Johnson

I’ve just returned from a week in Mauritius and we experienced every kind of weather you can imagine! We were moving around the island almost every day and got to experience the multitude of micro-climates Mauritius is made up of.

It could rain cats and dogs where you are, yet only a few kilometres away the sun is shining and there is not a cloud in sight. If you wake up in the morning to grey skies, don’t worry! Go for your shower, have breakfast. Later the sky will be blue.

They often say that you need to be prepared for all four seasons in a day in Mauritius, and that was true of our trip. Curepipe, a town in the centre of the island, is known to always have grey weather because of its location. I doubt I could live there!

b2ap3_thumbnail_trou-aux-cerf.jpg

We had one day that started with sunshine during breakfast, the wind blew while we packed our bags, the rain started as we drove out of the gates of the hotel. The GM said the island was crying because we were leaving. We went to our first stop and the sun came out just long enough that we could do the tour and get back on the bus without getting soaked. We then stopped at the Trou aux Cerfs – the crater of the main dormant volcano of Mauritius – and it was the fastest stop ever, and we were all soaked! By the time we got to the Holy Lake, the sun peeped out just enough to ensure that we had beautiful pictures. For our lunch stop, the sun came out in all its glory to show off the beautifully washed gardens of La Chamerelle Rhumerie. Back on the bus and the rain came down again! We were starting to worry that we would have rain for our last two days on the island. But as we arrived at our hotel for the evening the clouds blew off to the horizon and we had a spectacular sunset! And not a single drop of rain until we were sitting on the plane waiting to return to Durban!

b2ap3_thumbnail_Mauritius-temperature-distribution-maximum.jpg

But this was my experience of 7 days in October.

What do the experts tell us about the weather in Mauritius?

Located in the southwest Indian Ocean, Mauritius enjoys a tropical climate that is greatly affected by south east trade winds. The warmest weather occurs during the month of February (average temperatures around 29 degrees Celsius) while the coolest month is usually July (average temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius in some areas).

In general, the western and northern regions are warmer and drier than those in the east and south. Summertime, which lasts from November through April, sees overall averages of 30 C along the coasts and is slightly lower on the central plateau. Wintertime, from May through October, sees overall averages of 25-26C along the coast and lower on the central plateau. The sea temperature ranges from about 21 to 26 degrees Celsius, depending on the conditions and the season. Heavy rain is common from January through March, and tropical cyclones are a possibility from November through April although there have been a couple out of season.

b2ap3_thumbnail_rainfall-distribution-over-mauritius-map.jpg

So when is the best time to visit Mauritius then?

Any time of the year is right for a trip to Mauritius. You could spend a long time debating the best time of year to go. Each season has some advantages and disadvantages and this is why it is best to take into account all the different factors before making your decision on when to visit Mauritius.

The Mauritian summer months of October to Easter are ideal for a Mauritius beach holiday.

For those looking for a warm tropical climate, to spend most of the day on the beach or at sea, this is a great time to visit Mauritius. When you visit during this time the days are long, hot and sticky making swims in the Ocean more refreshing and the breezes on the East Coast, most welcome.

During the winter months of July to September, the temperatures are much cooler and on most days you may not even have to use your air conditioning. It rains less and even when it does rain it's mainly in the evening or just a passing shower during the day. You still have some strong sun during the day so a tan can still be achieved. As a bonus this time of year also sees fewer tourists. Hotel rates are generally lower, attractions are less crowded, and it is possible to negotiate prices with taxis and shop owners due to less traffic, additionally you do not have to worry about cyclones. The cooler weather during this period with less humidity makes this is the time to engage in many of the inland activities offered on the island such as hiking, quad biking and ziplining.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Mauritius_Activities_Sports_snorkelling1.jpg

For diving enthusiasts, the clearest waters are between December and March.

Surfers are advised to visit Mauritius between June and August. During this period you are sure to have amazing waves along the west coast of Mauritius, especially in the area of Tamarin and Le Morne.

Kite Surfers are advised to visit Mauritius from mid-March to October.

Anglers will be delighted at the big game fishing available from October to April.

What do the other staff of BeachTravel/Just Honeymoons say about Mauritius weather?

Polly has travelled a few times to Mauritius. In February of 2015 she was staying on the West Coast with her family and experienced a cyclone affecting Mauritius. Although the heavy wind and rain affected the holiday for two days, she was most impressed with how everyone kept them updated. From the hotel’s news channel on the TV, to the garage attendants, and almost everyoneelse they came into contact with. Everyone looks out for everyone else. They were able to go out and experience the island, even though the weather wasn’t ideal. As the weather got worse, they were advised to go back to the hotel. The hotel made a fantastic effort at making their stay as easy as possible. Umbrellas were supplied, additional kids club activities were put on, meals were sent to guests that could not come to the restaurant, updates on the weather were relayed via reception, TV channels and all staff members.

Her previous trip was in June and she was very impressed with how lovely the weather was. They were able to swim during the days. The weather was wonderfully warm during the day, and in the evenings it was only cool enough to need a light pashmina or jersey.

Lizelle has been to Mauritius in March and October. March was definitely warmer than October. In October she wob2ap3_thumbnail_Mauritius-Kietval-640x428.jpguld definitely suggest staying in the North West as the weather was much more pleasant. The East Coast can be very windy between May and October, but that cool breeze in the summer months is a godsend.

Edwina adores Mauritius and has travelled a few times. Her favourite months to travel are April and September. On one of the trips in May she experienced a lot of wind on the East Coast, and recommends that you choose a resort that is in a protected bay – as it can make the world of difference just by being on the correct bit of coast! On an August trip, earlier this year, she experienced tropical storms, with high winds and plenty of rain, in the South West, but the North West had beautiful weather.

As you can see from all our experiences, this proves that Mauritius really is a year round destination, as long as you know which area to go to, based on your needs and have an experienced travel expert on hand to advise you! BeachTravel has a full complement of agents that know this island at all times of the year and would love to assist with your next adventure to Mauritius!

Some tips to help you plan an affordable family holiday in this exotic, action-packed Indian Ocean destination include the following:

1.     Consider the season. Like many other tropical destinations, Mauritius has a dry season and a wet season. The latter falls during summer, between November and April. During this time of year, humidity is high, and storms (including cyclones) are more frequent. The dryer, slightly cooler time runs during winter, with mild weather. Both seasons have much to offer, but the peak season between December and January can be busier and more expensive. Consider planning your trip during a cheaper season to take advantage of reduced rates, or look for specials that take advantage of seasonal fluctuations.

2.     Consider the resort. No matter how good the price is, if the accommodation is not up to standard, it will not be worth your while. When travelling with kids, you may need to consider special facilities such as cots, child care services and additional rooms to fit your family. Accommodation in the form of resorts or hotels that have plenty of inclusive facilities are often more worth the cost than those that do not have anything to offer besides lodging.

3.     Consider other inclusions (and exclusions). Specials are always welcome… as long as they include enough things to be a truly good deal. If major expenses are not included, you may end up paying a lot more in the long run. Be sure what is included in the deal, and what is not, so that you can accurately budget for your holiday without the risk of hidden costs.

With so many deals to be found online, it has sadly become easier for scammers to take advantage of those looking for genuine deals. Whenever you enquire about an offer you find, always check to see that the provider is an authorised, trusted company that has contact people whom you can speak to, contact information on the website, and if possible, testimonials or reviews from happy customers. When a deal seems too good to be true, follow your instincts and investigate further before making any deposits.

With an abundance of Seychelles honeymoon packages to be found out there, choosing one that is best suited to your budget and specific needs is not always the easiest task in the world. Some may seem to tick all of your boxes at first glance, but a closer look reveals hidden costs or exclusions that put you right back to the drawing board without getting any further in making your honeymoon plans.

It goes without saying that this beautiful island destination is synonymous with romance. For honeymoons, it brings to mind warm days lazing on white sandy beaches, taking a dip in clear azure waters, trying delicious island meals together as a couple, sipping brightly coloured cocktails watching the sunset and relishing balmy evenings in paradise. Just how close you get to actual paradise depends entirely on the type of Seychelles honeymoon package you choose.

Everything You Should Know About Seychelles Honeymoon Packages

Some things to consider that will help you fine-tune your island honeymoon plans to perfection include the following:

·       Try and get as close to all-inclusive as possible. At the very least, the package should include accommodation, breakfasts and selected activities. Preferably, flights, other meals and transfers to and from airport and hotels should also be included. This can help bring down costs significantly, so the more that is included, the better. Also the more you can pay ahead of your trip, the less you need to worry about when you are in paradise.

·       Consider the time of year you will be travelling. Some packages are cheaper during certain times of year, with discounts during off-peak periods. From a practical point of view besides costs, it is also a good idea to know when you will be honeymooning. In Seychelles, the rainy season runs in summer, with monsoons and storms occurring especially from December to March. Prices are usually reduced during the less attractive weather periods, but know that as with any tropical destination, rain will very seldom fall for days on end. The weather changes quickly.

·       Always read the fine print. This sounds a bit obvious, but in all of the excitement of making honeymoon plans, it is easy to miss those sneaky exclusions, hidden costs and other information not made abundantly clear. Be 101% sure that you know exactly what the package entails – costs, inclusions, exclusions, terms, deposits and any other detail… no matter how small it may seem.

Taking the time to plan and research your best options is a good way to get the best deals. Likewise, taking the time to choose a provider that gives you the best value for your money will help you further stretch out your honeymoon budget, giving you more funds for romantic activities such as spa trips, horse riding on the beach, snorkelling and wining and dining.

What to Do on a Mauritius Family Holiday

In no particular order, some of the top things to do on your Mauritius family holiday include the following:

1.     National Botanical Gardens of Mauritius

Originally created as a private garden for the island’s governor almost 300 years ago, this garden is one of the top landmarks to visit, and for good reason. Over 650 varieties of plants can be seen, including huge baobabs, medicinal plants, a spice garden and incredible giant water lilies.

2.     Sugar Museum and Factory

Holidays can be educational as well as fun, as the amazing L’Avontuur Sucre Sugar Museum and Factory proves. Positioned among green sugar cane fields, this ancient mill offers an interactive Sugar Adventure for kids that teaches the history of sugar production over the past two and a half centuries. This adventure tour features two of the island’s animals – the mynah bird and the mongoose. These mascots guide kids through the factory, taking them on a fun tour that is both informative and entertaining. At the end of the tour, sugar tasting can be done for those wanting to try up to 11 different sugars.

3.     Dolphin Cruises

Dolphin cruises are sure to be the highlight of any holiday in Mauritius – whatever your age. Cruise the West coast as you watch dolphin pods swim by, birds fly overhead and the warm, clear Indian Ocean waters glide by on this rewarding cruise. For kids of 10 years and older, some cruises also offer the chance to swim with dolphins – an incredible experience that will be remembered forever.

4.     Ile aux Cerfs

This island lies on the East coast, and is ideal for a day trip. Tours typically include transport from your hotel, with a boat trip to the island and a chance to explore the surrounds at your own pace. Sights to see on this scenic island include a waterfall among others.

5.     Casela Nature Park

In the South West, this lovely nature park offers a fun day out for the entire family. There are four themed worlds to explore – Safari, Nature, Mountain and Water. Also included is a discovery and learning area for children, with plenty of activities to keep them busy.

6.     Crocodile & Giant Tortoises Park And Nature Reserve

Home to the island’s famous giant tortoises, as well as crocodiles, other reptiles, lush plants and springs filled with fish and prawns, this idyllic rain forest park is sure to be a hit with the whole family. There are shaded walking paths, a mini zoo and a butterfly park with thousands of beautifully coloured insects to see.

7.     Captain Nemo's Undersea Walk

In Grande Baie, you will have the chance to venture underneath the sea to a depth of three metres, wearing a special diving helmet reminiscent of ancient explorers and sea captains. View an array of amazing marine species, fish and corals as you explore a tropical lagoon that is warm and teeming with life.

8.     Domaine d’Anse Jonchée Nature Park

Nestled away in a rainforest, this park is home to many species of wildlife, including stags, Javan deer, monkeys, wild boar, hares and kestrels. Meander forest paths as you look out for animals, birds, insects and plants. There’s also a restaurant on site that serves local dishes.

9.     Labourdonnais Orchards

Taste delicious, freshly grown local tropical fruit directly from the source, as you explore one of the island’s most beautiful orchards. Here, kids can learn more about indigenous fruit and how it is grown, while also getting to try fruit they have picked themselves.

10.  Mauritius Aquarium

In the North West, the beautiful national aquarium is another spot worth visiting. It is home to some 200 species of marine creatures, ranging from brightly hued fish to live coral and sponges, sharks and popular residents such as crown squirrelfish and devil firefish. Kids of all ages (including fully grown kids) will love walking through the aquarium taking in the many amazing wonders.
